Born from a devotion to brass,
CuLover is a letter opener made to last a lifetime.

CuLover was born from M’s Maker —
a product brand launched by a small metal workshop in Japan.
Named after “Cu,” the chemical symbol for copper,
and the clover, a symbol of good fortune,
it is a piece designed to quietly express gratitude and well-wishes.
CuLover received the Best Concept Award at the 18th LIFE×DESIGN, part of the 100th Tokyo International Gift Show Autumn 2025.

  • Deepening Brilliance Over Time

Brass is known for its warm golden sheen —
and for the way it evolves.

As time passes, its surface develops a deeper tone and character,
    growing richer with use.
A material meant to be lived with, not replaced.

    Naturally resistant to rust,
with antibacterial properties and lasting durability,
brass aligns with a more sustainable way of living.

  • A Form That Fits the Hand

A Form That Fits the Hand

Designed to highlight the inherent beauty of brass,
its smooth, flowing curves rest naturally in the hand.

Weighing nearly three times as much as aluminum,
it delivers both durability and a sense of substance.
It also serves effortlessly as a paperweight.

    Elegance, grounded in function.

  • Crafted with Precision and Pride

Produced in a small Japanese metal workshop,
CuLover is shaped by skilled artisans
whose experience is measured in decades.

Its blade is engineered for a refined edge —
    sharp enough to glide,
yet controlled enough not to cut too deeply.

    As brass matures over time,
we hope the bonds between giver and receiver do the same.

Crafted by Matsunaga Iron Works

CuLover is manufactured by Matsunaga Iron Works,
based in Nobeoka, Miyazaki, Japan.

Founded in 1979 with a single conventional lathe,
the company has since produced precision components
for aircraft, satellites, medical equipment, food machinery, energy systems,
automotive applications, and semiconductor industries.

From complex one-off parts to highly specialized geometries
that others decline,
their craftsmen achieve tolerances of 1/100 mm —
and, depending on the form, up to 1/1000 mm.

They machine not only stainless steel and aluminum,
but also titanium, Hastelloy, and other advanced alloys
known for their machining difficulty.

Equipped with turning, machining, milling, wire cutting, and welding processes in-house,
Matsunaga Iron Works maintains a fully integrated production environment.

Their surface finish quality —
often described by clients as “Matsunaga Quality” —
is a defining strength.

From this foundation of precision and pride,
the product brand M’s Maker was born.
And from M’s Maker came CuLover.

Experience the true value of Made in Japan
through a piece designed to last —
and to stay with you over time.
